Medical Radiation Physicist - Radiotherapy Department

The Radiotherapy department of the Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel (UZ Brussel) has a vacancy for a medical physics expert. The radiation oncology department of the UZ Brussel has achieved international recognition for the continuous efforts in the realization of its mission which is “to offer the best and most suitable radiotherapy to the individual patient, through the development and clinical implementation of the most modern radiation techniques and biological concepts.”

Supporting the clinical tasks of the Medical Physics team:
  • Dosimetry (in vitro, in silico and in vivo) and patient specific pre-treatment verification.
  • Quality control of the medical equipment.
  • Application and supervision of external beam radiotherapy treatment planning.
  • Application and verification of special treatment techniques, including: Total Body Irradiation (TBI), Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Hypofractionation and Breathing-Synchronised Irradiation techniques, and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).
  • Clinical development, implementation and validation of new treatment techniques.



  • Masters Degree in Physics, or in Engineering Sciences option Medical Radiation Physicist, or in Industrial Sciences option Nuclear Technology.
  • Being certified as a Specialist in Radiation Physics in the area of RADIOTHERAPY is an advantage, but candidates who meet all the requirements will also be considered and can apply for their recognition during their employment.
  • All-round general knowledge of IT and network management.
  • Understanding the specifics related to the medical sector and a strong interest in the patients’ wellbeing.
  • Ability to work independently and in team; effective communication in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Analytical mind and scientific orientation.
  • Problem solving skills.

The preferred starting date is February-March 2018.
