Remuneration and benefits

MAJOR, SOUND AND WARM EMPLOYER

Good patient care is the direct result of engaged and satisfied carers. Every day, 3,400 members of staff get down to work with enthusiasm at every level, from maintenance and reception to nurses and leading surgeons. High-quality care calls for investment in the skills and growth of the staff. So UZ Brussel opts for an HR policy based on the following pillars: 

 

Good working conditions:
At UZ Brussel you can count on job security, acknowledgement of years’ service, a competitive salary and various bonuses such as an end-of-year bonus and an attraction bonus.

As a full-time employee, you are entitled to 37 days’ holiday, including the ten legal holidays, with an additional day’s holiday added per five years’ service (with a maximum of three days). For staff aged 45 and over, specific regulations apply for additional days’ holiday.

In addition, we offer our staff a wide range of extra benefits including: 

  • supplementary pension (in addition to the statutory and private pension – pension savings initiative),
  • hospitalisation insurance (which covers out-patient care in addition to hospitalisation),
  • death benefit (one-off capital for partner and children),
  • partial repayment of travel expenses, rail season ticket and combination with Belgian railways refunded in full
  • cycling allowance, free parking, corporate discount, newsagent’s, Bancontact, sports centre on campus, extensive catering possibilities and staff events.

 

Extra benefits for nurses:
As a nurse, in addition to these benefits you immediately receive an open-ended contract with full acknowledgement of years’ service in a system with performance-related pay or a fixed supplement of 11 % for non-standard work, without interrupted services. You may be employed on a full-time or a part-time basis in a three-shift system (7 hours 36 minutes/day) or a two-shift system (12 hours/day).

In addition to the bonuses listed above, you can also claim a generous recall bonus on top of your normal salary (if you are not on the duty rota but are asked to come in and work within 24 hours) and a continuity bonus (if you taken on specific tasks in the absence of the head nurse). You work in a multidisciplinary tem in a culture of direct and open communication, making your own contribution to the duty rota, with the possibility of changing department easily and with amicable cooperation at all levels. Thanks to the support of logistics assistants, the secretariat, internal patient transport, centrally organised automatic supplies of equipment and products, medication scanning, mobile work stations, etc., you are able to focus fully on your professional job as a nurse and to develop within this position in terms of both specialisation and responsibility.

 

Part-time work and thought for the family:
Part-time work in every possible daily and hourly timetable in combination with good internal facilities ensure our staff a properly organised work-life balance. We provide a crèche on the campus, child care during the holidays, children’s parties and an extra birth bonus (+/- EUR 75) from the employer. You can also claim various forms of reduced working hours such as time credit (temporary or permanent), assistance in the event of long-term illness or palliative leave, parental leave, maternity leave and breaks, etc.

 

Investment in training:
Thanks to the possibility of internal and external ongoing training (including study days, congresses, workshops, further training courses, the granting of educational leave) we make a conscious effort to promote the development of staff. Evaluation, feedback, performance and growth are the watchwords here.

The structure and tradition of UZ Brussel has always placed great emphasis on the involvement of all members of staff in the core focus of the hospital, care and the patient. This is greatly appreciated: the friendly patient- and family-oriented care provided at UZ Brussel is well known far beyond the region.

 

State-of-the-art, innovative working environment:
We invest in the development of technology and IT on the basis of both an integrated approach to work and the availability in house of highly advanced medical technology. So working in this context is a unique experience. A clinical work station and a computerised patient file (EMD) including medication management, examination planning, minimum hospital data registration, etc. are all already well established here. The intranet is also an important tool for staff, providing protocols, guidelines and procedures.
